Inspired by bell hooks writer, feminist, and social activist, I reflect on my process and the journey of love in all its manifestations.
“Dance”I have never felt abandoned by Love as a child or as a adult, fundementally in my early childhood years I had no experience of Love, just the process of dancing.
What bell unfolds in her book (All About Love) is the need to be Loved, and that Love is a active movement, a flow and a dance, which can leave and return at any given moment. She opens up the thought that Love is a on-going relationship, that can always be redeemed, restored and transformed.
Dance, for me exists only in the moment I take awareness to inner intention and breath to flow into motion, before a gesture lands in and through space, between impulse and sensation. I dance in the fragility of my body, deliberately! I do not want to fix it or resolve a impulse for something more stable. I have no need for imitation or appropriation.
My precariousness is the truth and this truth is difficult enough. My body, time, attention..disappearing before I can say hello who and what is this? Inconceivable. I mean this precisely, that the work I am looking for cannot be fully conceived in advance, cannot be planned into existence from the outside spaces of open dance studios, or open jam sessions, or the advice of a international dance success on Instagram.
It has to be found in each thought of creation, in the body and in the space between people, place and sound. No vision. A question and sometimes not even that! Sometimes a sensation, a residue, something that will not leave the body or mind.
My love relationship with Dance is not an instrument to be deployed to others, but a witness to be trusted, a honesty which is costly and a forever changing flow of Love and No Love.
